Just finished Blumhouse of Horrors, my final premium Haunted House of the 2012 Halloween season. It was put on by the producer of Sinister and Paranormal Activity - and the professionalism showed. It was good - atmospheric, really pretty, and fun. They had a bunch of actors scaring the shit out of people on the street while you waited in line, as well as a close up magic Magician doing tricks (also while you were in line) so you were always entertained. It had some scary moments but fell just short of Delusion. So here’s my final Halloween Haunted House ranking:

Delusion - creative, atmospheric, engaging, incredible special effects (WIREWORKS!), and all around the most original thing I did this year. Not necessarily scary but good. Good enough that I’m going again next week.
Haunted Hollywood Sports - The mazes were pretty solid but the killhouses were what cinched it for me. Nothing like being able to take airsoft guns and shoot all the creepy stuff that pops out at you during your typical haunted maze
Blumhouse of Horrors - pretty to look at and entertaining
Blackout - An interesting experience and something I’d do again to see if it can truly scare me
Halloween Horror Nights - The VIP experience always brings it with a combo of swanky perks (yeeeeeah Vampire Lounge) and fun mazes. It’s not worth it to go with anything less than a Front of the Line pass, though. Seriously, trust me.
Queen Mary Dark Harbor - Would have been better if they paced the groups out better but fun to wander around a big, haunted-for-real ship
Haunted Hayride - Okay, it’s cheesy and not scary but I love hayrides. Get the LivingSocial or Groupon deals - don’t pay full price
HellBreak LA - Avoid, avoid, avoid, avoid. Overpriced, rude, never open (I tried going 4 different days and they were always closed without any warning), poorly executed, and not scary. If they manage to do this again next year, I’ll be shocked
